Fiat 500x Tires
The Fiat 500 is a subcompact that’s inspired by its namesake from the 1950s (aka the Fiat Topolino); while it bears a passing resemblance to the cute 50s model, it’s a complete upgrade in every other sense. The 500 was introduced in 2007 and was originally conceived of as an alternative to 3-door city cars like the Smart, but later iterations include 5-door and convertible body styles. There’s also the Abarth version, with a 160 hp 4-cyl for some decent performance, and the 500e EV edition of the 500. Fiat 500s are available with a choice of several 4-cyl engines and are capable of as high as 40 mpg on the highway. This fun, stylish little car is available with all modern options, including a backup camera, infotainment system, GPS navigation, power option package, and much more.
Here at SimpleTire, we’ve gone through and rounded up some of the best Grand Touring, all-season, and winter tire options for your Fiat 500, then ranked them as best/great/good according to our SimpleScore system. Ready? Let’s go in for a closer look:
1. Bridgestone DriveGuard Plus - Best Touring tire
Let’s start our list with the Bridgestone DriveGuard Plus, a performance-oriented premium all-season tire that also gives you the confidence of run-flat technology. Run-flat tires use a reinforced sidewall structure that stays rigid and allows you to drive as far as another 50 miles even in the case of complete tire failure and loss of air pressure. The DriveGuard Plus is designed to deliver excellent grip in changing weather conditions, with circumferential grooves that cut through a film of water and channel it behind the tire to resist hydroplaning. Full-depth 3D sipes multiply your traction with hundreds of extra biting edges in snow and rain, and an asymmetric all-season tread with open shoulder slots works with the circumferential and angled grooves for wet-weather grip. We give the DriveGuard Plus a SimpleScore of 9.7 for traction. Wear properties are first-rate too, thanks to a long-wearing tread compound, run-flat technology, and robust internal construction. Bridgestone stands by the DriveGuard Plus with a 65,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty, and we came up with a SimpleScore of 9.6 for longevity for this tire. As for cornering, braking, control, and steering response, we gave the DriveGuard Plus a solid 9.9 thanks to its stable, rigid tread face, and asymmetric tread pattern. All in all, this is a Grand Touring tire that delivers a quiet, forgiving ride, great handling ability, long wear, and consistent traction year-round.
2. Goodyear Assurance MaxLife - Best All-Season tire
Next up we come to the Goodyear Assurance MaxLife, an all-season tire that’s amazingly versatile and capable and delivers both year-round grip and inspiring, confident performance for drivers. For over a century, the Goodyear brand has been associated with value and quality, and the Goodyear Assurance MaxLife is a tire that lives up to and exceeds those expectations. The Goodyear Assurance MaxLife offers long wear and durability thanks to a tough internal design and advanced tread formulation, definitely living up to its brand name. At SimpleTire, our SimpleScores rankings award the Assurance MaxLife a longevity score of 9.9. The Assurance MaxLife’s 85,000 mile limited manufacturer’s treadwear warranty is best-in-class, thanks to Goodyear’s TredLife technology package. You can also enjoy road manners and steering responses that are top-notch, with a semi-solid center rib that boosts straight-line stability as well as steering feedback and response. Braking performance, cornering, and maneuverability are all excellent too, with semi-closed shoulders, a sticky tread formula, and a polyamide reinforcement layer for stability. We took all that into account when we totaled up a SimpleScore of 9.5 for handling. Wet and wintry performance is enhanced with a pattern of sipes that add hundreds of extra biting edges to multiply grip, a network of circumferential grooves, plus angled and lateral grooves all working as a system that resists hydroplaning by cutting through a film of water and diverting it behind the tire’s contact patch.. When a tire gives you that kind of confidence for cornering and braking in wet or dry weather, we figure that’s enough for a SimpleScore of 9.7 for traction.
3. Pirelli Scorpion Winter 2 - Best Winter tire
When it comes to traction and performance in winter conditions, our pick is going to be the Pirelli Scorpion Winter 2. The Scorpion Winter 2 starts with a specialized winter rubber compound that stays pliable for traction in subfreezing weather. That rubber formulation is molded into a directional winter tread pattern with V-shaped grooves, chamfered grooves, circumferential grooves, and dense 3D sipes so it can chew its way through snow and slush, chalking up a solid SimpleScore of 9.8 for traction. Those tread features all work together as a system that boosts braking performance, steering response, cornering, and control, for a SimpleScore of 9.8 for handling. One downside is that durability and tread wear aren’t a strong suit with the Pirelli Scorpion Winter 2 – dedicated winter tires like these are not designed for warmer weather and their softer, more pliable low-temperature tread compound will wear quickly if temperatures are above 45 degrees F. That being said, the tire is still pretty durable and boasts a SimpleScore of 8.0 in longevity.
While these are our picks for some of the best Fiat 500 tires on the market today, there are plenty of other options out there. Here are a few more you might want to consider:
4. General Altimax RT45 - Great All-Season tire
Now we come to a tire that we continue to be impressed with: the General Altimax RT45. While the Altimax RT45 might come in at a lower price point, don’t be put off by that because this is a tire that truly is a great value and compares well to any premium brand. It’s a tire that you can rely on for the performance you need in all kinds of weather conditions, with an all-season tread design that’s been tested and proven on the track and in the real world. General Tire stands by the Altimax RT45 with either a 65,000 or 75,000 mile manufacturer’s tread life warranty (depending on tire size), and our SimpleScore rankings give it an outstanding 9.9 for longevity. Year-round grip, low road noise, a luxurious ride, and braking and handling that are all predictable and consistent are some of the other strong points of the Altimax RT45 for a traction score of 9.0. Handling comes in at a SimpleScore of 8.7; a network of sipes and lateral grooves and a solid center rib all help boost road feedback, steering response, and cornering ability. Another feature that we’re impressed with is the visual alignment indicator, which enables a driver to keep tabs on excessive wear or alignment that’s out of spec. When tread depth reaches a minimum of 2/32” (the legal minimum tread depth in most states), the words “Replace Tire” are molded into the tread and are revealed only when the tread wears to that depth. Select sizes of the Altimax RT45 are available with a great-looking outlined white letter sidewall.
5. Toyo Extensa A/S II - Good All-Season tire
We’re going to close out our list with the Toyo Extensa A/S II, a great value in an all-season tire for sedans, coupes, minivans, and SUVs. The Extensa A/S II features an advanced silica-rich tread compound that delivers improved fuel efficiency with low rolling resistance, along with long wear and enhanced wet-weather traction. Toyo designed the Extensa A/S II with tread ribs that are optimized and equalize the stress and pressure across the tire’s tread face for more even wear and improved cornering and braking performance. Four wide circumferential grooves resist hydroplaning on wet roads by diverting water behind the tire’s contact patch, and a dense network of sipes multiplies the traction you need to make it easier to get through wet or wintry conditions. The Extensa A/S II is designed with a non-directional symmetric tread design that makes it easier to cross-rotate tires for even wear. Toyo backs the Extensa A/S II with a 75,000 mile manufacturer’s treadwear warranty.
With an average SimpleScore of 8.5, the Extensa A/S II offers great handling and traction (8.7 in both categories) and good longevity (7.8).
