Chevrolet Trailblazer Tires
Chevrolet’s Trailblazer was introduced in 1999 as a more upscale version of the S-10 Blazer, and was powered by a big inline 6-cylinder engine, with a V8 option. All Trailblazers were four-wheel drive, with the exception of all-wheel drive for the SS model (which also featured the Corvette’s LS2 V8). Though it’s been quite a long time ago, the Trailblazer was applauded by the automotive press and was named North American Truck of the Year, with the 4.2L engine being named to Ward’s 10 Best Engines. Trim levels included LS, LT, LTZ, and the performance-oriented SS, with advanced-for-the-time features like a Bose six-speaker audio setup, touchscreen GPS, heated front seats, OnStar, and more. The Trailblazer was offered as an EXT model as well, with third-row seating and a raised roofline to accommodate rear passengers. All in all, the Trailblazer was a comfortable, capable midsize SUV from Chevrolet, although it was replaced by the Traverse crossover in model year 2010. The final Trailblazer was also one of the very last vehicles to come from GM’s Moraine, Ohio plant a week before its closure.
At SimpleTire, we put some time into rounding up some of the best tire choices for your Chevrolet Trailblazer, including some all-season light truck tires, all-terrain and all-weather tire options. Without further ado, let’s go ahead and take a closer look:
1. Bridgestone Alenza A/S Ultra - Best all-season tire
The Bridgestone Alenza A/S Ultra is first up, an all-season tire that’s designed for year-round traction on wet, dry, or snowy roads, with the kind of ride comfort and low noise you’d expect with a Grand Touring tire. The Alenza A/S Ultra might be a relative newcomer to the Alenza tire family from Bridgestone, but it offers a luxurious ride with responsive handling, and long, even tread wear. Bridgestone starts out with an advanced silica-based tread compound that’s designed for enhanced wet-weather traction, long wear, and noise reduction. It’s molded into an asymmetric tread pattern with wide circumferential grooves that channel water away from the tire’s contact patch to resist hydroplaning, and a combination of a dense sipe pattern and Bridgestone’s Snow Vices to deliver good traction in wet or light wintry conditions. Bridgestone’s Quiet Track technology package reduces pattern noise by canceling certain frequencies for a whisper-quiet ride on the highway. Internally, the Alenza A/S Ultra features a polyester casing topped by two steel belts and a spiral-wound nylon cap layer for high-speed stability and long life. It all comes together and pays off with a 5 year/80,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty from Bridgestone. According to SimpleTire’s SimpleScore system, the Alenza A/S Ultra pulls down an overall average of 9.6, with marks of 9.55 for handling, 9.7 for longevity, and 9.7 for traction. Long tread life, dependable traction, and a quiet, pillowy ride – that’s what you can expect with the Bridgestone Alenza A/S Ultra.
2. Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail - Best all-terrain tire
Next up we have a premium all-terrain tire, the Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail. The Wildpeak A/T Trail is built for durability and adventure off the pavement without compromising the ride comfort, handling, low noise, and road manners you expect on the open road. The Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail is designed for the driving dynamics of modern trucks, SUVs, and crossovers, with a 2-ply polyester casing, steel belt package, and polyamide cap ply for stability, and a silica-rich tread compound that delivers great wet or dry-weather traction and long wear across a wide range of temperatures. The Wildpeak A/T Trail features an aggressive, symmetric all-terrain tread design with a deep 10/32” tread, open shoulder design, and circumferential grooves to resist hydroplaning. Falken designed the Wildpeak A/T Trail for winter traction too, with interlocking 3D Canyon Sipes (earning it the tire industry’s Three Peak Mountain Snowflake rating for severe winter service). For durability and damage resistance off the pavement, the Wildpeak A/T Trail has a reinforced sidewall with lugs that extend from the shoulder onto the sidewall itself, boosting lateral traction. You can also customize your vehicle’s looks with a choice of two sidewall designs – one with traditional serrated lettering and the other with a raised, three-dimensional lettering style. Falken stands behind the Wildpeak A/T Trail with a five-year/ 65,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty. According to our SimpleScore ratings, the Wildpeak AT Trail gets an overall score of 9.0, with marks of 9.0 for handling, 8.9 for longevity and 9.2 for traction.
3. Nokian WR G4 SUV - Best all-weather tire
Now we come to the Nokian WR G4 SUV. Nokian is a Finnish tire manufacturer that’s known for their winter tires; the WR G4 SUV is technically an all-weather tire, splitting the difference between all-season tires and winter tires, with more of an emphasis toward winter performance. The WR G4 SUV is designed to be equally at ease either on a snow-covered road or a sun-blasted interstate in the dead of summer. It starts off with a long-wearing, sustainably-manufactured rubber compound that can stay flexible for good traction in subfreezing weather, and an Aramid-reinforced sidewall for real durability. Its asymmetric tread pattern features angled, lateral, and circumferential grooves to evacuate water and slush to avoid hydroplaning, and Nokian’s “centipede sipe” design delivers traction in winter conditions that rivals the best winter tires. Nokian notes that the low rolling resistance of the WR G4 SUV makes it a good choice for EVs as well as the Chevy Trailblazer, and its tread pattern is computer tuned with a randomized pitch for low road noise. With a 60,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty and the industry’s Three Peak Mountain Snowflake rating for severe winter service, this is a tire that doesn’t really have a downside. SimpleTire’s SimpleScore data for the Nokian WR G4 SUV comes out to an overall score of 9.2, with a 9.2 for handling, 9 for longevity and 9.6 for traction.
While these are the three best Chevrolet Trailblazer tires on the market, there are plenty of other great and good options out there. Here are two others that caught our eyes:
4. Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season - Great all-season tire
When Pirelli set out to design the Scorpion Verde All Season, the goal was to develop a green-friendly all-season tire that could live up to the expectations of performance and value that Pirelli has come to be associated with. The Scorpion Verde All Season offers low rolling resistance for fuel savings over the life of the tire, thanks to its tread design and lightweight construction. Its silica-rich tread formulation offers great wear properties and wet-weather grip, and its all-season tread features circumferential and lateral grooves and a dense network of sipes for true year-round traction. The Scorpion Verde All Season is quiet, too, with a randomized tread pitch that’s tuned for low noise and a sound-absorbing layer of foam undertread on select sizes. SimpleScore data on the Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season gives an overall average of 8.9, with 9.5 for handling, 8.2 for longevity, and 9.2 for traction. Pirelli stands behind the Scorpion Verde with a 60,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty.
5. Nexen N5000 Platinum - Good all-season tire
For an affordable all-season tire for light trucks and SUVs, the Nexen N5000 Platinum presents a great value. The N5000 Platinum is a versatile tire that’s suitable for sedans and minivans as well as SUVs and crossovers, with an all-season tread pattern and a contact patch that’s optimized to put more rubber in contact with the road for good feedback, road manners and responsiveness. The solid center rib of the Nexen N5000 Platinum is designed for improved straight-line stability at highway speed and great steering response, and the big shoulder blocks boost cornering ability as well as encouraging even tread wear. Nexen backs the N5000 Platinum with a 55,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty for W-rated sizes, and a 70,000 mile warranty for H- and V-rated sizes. According to the SimpleScore rating system, we give the Nexen N5000 Platinum scores of 8.4 overall, 8.7 for handling, 9.4 for longevity, and 8.2 for traction.
