  • Westlake tires are produced at the largest and most advanced tire manufacturing facility in China, and these tires have already garnered multiple accolades, including a distinction from the US Department of Transportation (DOT). One of the well-known tires it produces is the Westlake CR960A, a tire that prevents even wear for long wear cycles and provides a tremendous load-bearing capacity due to the 16-ply rating. This commercial tire can be fitted at all positions in semi-trucks as per long haul and regional applications. Available as per an average SimpleScore of 7.2, it receives suitable features for providing traction in wet conditions. It can be used for specialty trailer service, and more details are available in this Westlake CR960A review.

    Features and Benefits

As a commercial oversized tire, the Westlake CR960A offers tremendous durability due to a strong steel casing that contains steel belts for protection on different types of roads. The tire can maintain its shape when subjected to high pressure, being available with a 16-ply rating. A special compound has been used to lower the rolling resistance here, leading to better mileage. Here are the features and benefits that result in a high Westlake CR960A rating:

    • Useful in specialty trailer service: This is an all-steel radial tire that provides the strength to carry out specialty trailer service.
    • High durability: It receives a steel casing that provides strong steel belts for high durability to carry heavy loads, leading to an average durability SimpleScore of 7.1.
    • Long tread life: An improved close shoulder design helps enhance even wear, leading to long tread life and an average longevity SimpleScore of 7.4.
    • Great wet traction: Deep grooves remove water from the tread to prevent hydroplaning and provide great wet traction, ensuring an average traction SimpleScore of 7.1.
    • Less heat buildup in the tire: A special rubber compound decreases rolling resistance to reduce heat buildup, and prolong tire life.
    • Great fuel economy: A low rolling resistance design of CR960A enables the tire to deliver a high fuel economy, resulting in fewer fuel pump pit stops over long distances.

    Pros and Cons

Apart from being an all-steel radial, the Westlake CR960A has been made a strong tire with the help of a steel casing and steel belts. Even wear plays a major part in this tire being utilized for long distances, and the combination of a straight simple rib pattern and an improved close shoulder goes a long way in providing the same. We have listed the pros and cons of the CR960A below:

    PROS:

    • Efficient water evacuation
    • Longer tread life
    • High durability
    • Great control on wet roads
    • High strength

    CONS:

    • There is no limited manufacturer warranty
    • Dry traction is not as good as wet traction

For a tire that performs specialty trailer service that is included in various long haul and regional applications, it makes perfect sense to have a highly durable tire made of steel belts. Westlake CR960A satisfies the above requirements and is also versatile enough to be used in all positions on semi-trucks. These are good tires (BUT) Not long lasting at all! Bought a 2020 rv with these tires on them, I was a little nervous because I really couldn't find any reviews on them other than car tire reviews. So I decided to give them a chance. I have about 15k on them now in 1 year with no problems. But while upgrading the suspension on the rv I decided to have these tires balanced that's when I noticed the cracks, some really small and a couple that are very concerning. So I'm getting rid of them and buying some Goodyears G114 ! You get what you pay for...... No more Thailand/China Bombs??

Bought these new 3 years ago. The sidewalls are cracking. Tread life is good. Tires are not good value for the money. Basically a throwaway tire after 3 years. Would not recommend them.

We were told that these were upgrades on our new 5th wheel. I am religious about checking tire pressure, yet around 4,000 miles and we've already had 2 peel off causing more than $10,000 worth of damage to our new 5th wheel.
