I bought the Altimax Artic tire in Nov. 2015. I drive them all year round. The tires are great in the snow and ice. Acceleration and braking were better in my 2wd s10 than I got with all seasons on the 4x4 blazer. Summer driving was also good. I found the handling very good. I have put well over 55,000 miles on the tires and am only now getting to the point of needing to replace them.
Live in the mountains of PA. Most of the driving is paved & dirt roads. Best snow tire I ever purchased. Great on muddy roads and wet pavement too.The tires are on a Jeep Grand Cherokee. These tires are a home run.
General Altimax Arctic were my first set of owning snow tires for annual winter driving in the Midwest. I will simply say that these tires leave the impression of a tank driving thru snow. Thanks Simple Tire! for carrying these tires!
I purchase these tires over and over again for winter for a reason. I have yet to find a snow/winter tire that even comes close to the control and traction these tires provide in snowy conditions.
I purchased these tires to replace the dedicated snows for my Yaris. I previously ran Continental ExtremeWinterContact tires which were a damn fine tire and at the end of their life they started phasing out the tire and my size was one of the first to go. At the time I was commuting 110miles a day and felt a 'full faced' tread would be better for the highway, otherwise I would of chose the Firestone Winterforce tires which are still my favorite overall. So after some research, I gave these Generals a try. Not a bad tire. They treated me well. Maybe not as refined as the old Continentals, but did well. This past year I ended up running them all year round and they were fine during the summer. Ive also did some light autoX type racing with these tires during a small winter series. Well this is the 4th and final season for them. I wont buy again, mainly as technology advances fast and there is better stuff out there currently. I never got stuck and I am the hoon that goes out in the blizzard to play around, doing 75mph in 5" of snow.
Best winter tire out there.Price is fantastic.
Great tires for winter traction in ice and snow.
Great winter tires
Get technical:
The General Altimax Arctic is a studdable winter tire specially designed for drivers who are looking for superior wintertime traction, stability, and reliable handling. Ideal for coupes, sedans, minivans, and crossovers, the General Altimax Arctic performs best during low temperatures especially since it is molded to accommodate metal studs which are optional to add upon use. It features an all-weather dual tread compound which further enhances its performance in cold and wet weather. The tread design has a directional pattern combined with a center stability rib to provide straight-line stability on roads that are dry. It also has the ability to evacuate water efficiently while increasing resistance to hydroplaning when driving on roads that are wet and slush-covered. To further enhance this is the high-density siping which gives it superior traction during acceleration, cornering, and braking. To get the most out of the General Altimax Arctic, it is recommended to use it in sets of four.
Features & Benefits
- Designed for use on passenger cars
